What is of Cogs & Monsters?

"of Cogs & Monsters" is a tabletop roleplaying game that takes place in a fantasy setting inspired by the 19th century.

There are four mundane worlds, each associated with one of the four basic elements Earth, Fire, Air, and Water.

Telluria is closely associated to elemental earth. Tellurians consider their heavily industrialized world the cradle of civilization and all other worlds, frontier worlds.

Kaumatopos is closely aligned with elemental fire. Lightning storms rage in the sky and it has ample volcanic activity, sweltering rainforests, and arid deserts. Kaumatopan natives have learned to survive in these harsh climates. For every Tellurian settler whose life Kaumatopos claims, there are 100 ready to seek fortune.

Thalassion is closely aligned with elemental water. Here natives cling to the shallows and land while Tellurians seek great adventure on the open sees. In the sky 7 mad moons dance across the sky as they see fit. In the depths below, things lurk.

Nephochora is closely aligned with elemental air. Once a thriving world tamed by the now-dead Naphalim, Nephochora is ravaged by constant powerful winds. The last remnants of ancient civilizations live atop mountains above the winds. Tellurian adventures and archeologists who dare travel below the clouds seek the ancient secrets the Nephalim left behind.

What you need to play

You'll need pencil, paper, and dice. To see how you'll use some of these dice, start with the System Basics page.

A full set of gaming dice includes dice ranging from four to twenty sides. If you don't want to buy dice, there are numerous dice-rolling applications. You can even find virtual dice on google or bing.
